Hello!

And welcome to Wright Seaplane Base, Inc!

Wright Seaplane Base, Inc. is dedicated to all things of flight; but close to our hearts is the history and preservation of the Wright Model “G” Areoboat.

“Wright Model “G” Areoboat?”. . . Most people have never even heard of the Wright Brothers’, “Wright Model G Areoboat!

You ask, what can I possibly say about the Wright brothers that has not already been said in books, newspapers, magazines, television, and other publications? Well, there is one important piece of history about the Wright Brothers that has been lost in time. Wilbur died in 1912, but Orville and company continued to test several versions of a Wright Flyer, to include a predecessor to the seaplane. Adding pontoons to several versions of the Wright “B” Flyer and then creating an entirely new plane with a boat like hull. The Model “G” Areoboat became their most successful seaplane.

Orville flew the seaplanes in and out of the Miami River between Moraine and West Carrollton, Ohio over a 100 times in 1913 and 1914. On one flight, the Model “G” carried a pilot and 3 passengers.

Wright Seaplane Base, Inc. is dedicated to recovering this lost piece of aviation history. It is the desire of the Historical Aviation organization to build a full-scale sculpture of the Model “G” Areoboat lifting off from the Miami river for all to see, visit, and touch.

Interesting article! I didn't know about this aircraft - I was trying to find the subject of the model hanging in the Heritage Center at Carillon Park and I think I found it, thanks to your blog.

Hi Daniel! Your response is like most folks we engage with, "I didn't know about this aircraft." That is why WSBI is so passionate about sharing this important piece of history regarding the Wright brothers, which, has been lost in time. The Model "G" Aeroboat was their most successful seaplane! If you are ever around the Moraine-Payne Recreation Center they have on display the start of a look-alike Aeroboat in their lobby, check it out. It is actually our goal to erect a full size sculpture of the Model "G" for public display in West Carrollton, near the area where Orville performed their Aeroboat test flights on the Miami River. At the Wright Seaplane Base in West Carrollton, there is also a historical marker you can visit as well. Thank you, Daniel for your comments. Continue to stay connected with us through our blog, Facebook, and Twitter. We appreciate the community, connections, and feedback. Sincerely, WSBI

I was recently was on bike path and saw the sign for seaplane. I had heard a little about it a few years back. I had always wondered where the location was. I hope one day to see your replica fly in that very area. I did not know there was a display ir any pictures around. What a great piece of history that should be shared for all to know n be proud of:)

How great is this? Especially for me after just finishing David
McCullough's "Wright Brothers" book from the WC library. Now
I'm on a quest to visit all sites of importance and didn't know the
seaplane base was at the bend in my hometown! Yipes. Just went
to 7 Hawthorn St the other day and have seen the actual birth
house in Greenfield Village many-a-yr. ago. Keep up the good work and if you need any help...let me know? A vintage, retired, photography teacher...

Read this book: "A. I. Root, the liar number four after the Wright Brothers and their mentor, Octave Chanute" ( http://wright1903dec17.altervista.org ). The Wright brothers did not fly before 1908, well within the aviation age.
